However, like all industries that are gaining popularity, there are myths and misconceptions that start floating around for various reasons. 

Sometimes, these misconceptions are perpetuated by people who want to hurt the image of the organics industry, or simply, they don’t know any better. To make sure that you are well-informed, here are some misconceptions on organic farming that you should steer clear of. 

Pests can’t be controlled in organics

When it comes to the traditional method of farming, the biggest issue that these farmers face is the control of pests. In order to counter this, they resort to using large amounts of chemical pesticides to help manage the level of pests that plague their crops. 

So one misconception of organics is the fact that there is no way to control pests because of the chemical-free approach that they take. 

However, there are organic methods of pest control, as long as you know what you’re doing. Not only are there natural pesticides, but there are manual forms of pest control. It may take more work, but it is more beneficial for your land. 

The organic method of farming is outdated

Another big misconception of organics is the idea that it is outdated. After all, didn’t our ancestors farm organically? However, even though the organic approach to farming doesn’t make use of current chemicals to boost it, it is far from outdated. This method of farming still uses current farming tech in its methods, the main difference is the use of natural substances to boost crop production. 

Organic is just an excuse to charge for more food

This is commonly said by consumers when they encounter organic food in the shops. However, you should know that for a farm to sell their products under the organic label, they have to undergo a very strict process that takes years just to attach that “organic” label on their products. 

Organic farmers also have to comply with requirements in order to meet the standards set by the organic industry. The organic label is not just a marketing tactic, farmers who use this label worked very hard to earn the right to market their products under that label.

Organics means chemical-free

Interestingly enough, contrary to popular belief, organic farming doesn’t mean chemical-free. The main thing that defines organic farming is the fact that they make use of natural substances to boost crop growth and get rid of pests, so it is not entirely chemical-free.
