These terms are often used alongside each other, and in some cases, are often interchanged. However, keep in mind that while these are definitely related, they are not to be used in lieu of the other. Each one has its role in the culinary world and in the concept of sustainability. What is farm to table?

As a result, you end up with food that is lower in quality and flavor compared to food that comes from local sources.

With farm-to-table, there is a stronger emphasis on local ingredients, as all of the ingredients come from local farms. Farm to table focuses on supporting local farms and businesses and bringing the freshest products and ingredients to the diner.

The reason why farm to table is often mixed up with organic farming is that the organic industry tends to focus its marketing efforts towards local consumers and businesses. Because of this, most farm-to-table restaurants tend to partner up with organic farms to get their ingredients.

Organic crops tend to be sold on a local level because of their lack of chemical preservatives. Since it will be hard for them to last a long time, it will not survive long transport times, so most organic farms partner up with local restaurants and businesses to sell their products.

It is always a good idea to support both the organic and farm-to-table movement because this is a good way of supporting local businesses while getting access to clean, healthy, and flavorful products for you and your family.
